FAQS

What is a Personal Loan?

A Personal Loan is a way for you to borrow money for spending on personal items, from buying a new phone, to getting the perfect wedding ring, to going on a holiday, and much more. What makes a Personal Loan unique is that it does not require any security or collateral. This means you can use it to meet immediate financial needs such as consolidating your credit card debts, or making big purchases that you can they pay off on a monthly basis.

Why should I get a Personal Loan instead of my credit card?

A Personal Loan, month for month, can be significantly cheaper than putting your debt on your credit card. In extreme cases, a person paying an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of over 30% on a credit card may be able to reduce that to as low as 8%APR using a personal loan.

What can I do with a Personal Loan?

Since it is a Personal Loan what you do with it is up to you, whether you want to pay for a big item or event, get control of your finances, and everything in between. Popular uses include:

  • Home redecoration
  • Going on a dream vacation
  • Studying for professional certifications
  • Having the perfect wedding
  • Paying off taxes
  • Funding a business
  • Standby cash
  • Debt consolidation

What is the difference between a Monthly Flat Rate and an Annual Percentage Rate (APR)?

A monthly flat rate is a method used to calculate the monthly repayment for a loan. Most banks and financial institutions use this for fixed monthly repayments.

An APR is an index on the cost of your loan, including interest and all related fees/charges. It is calculated based on either 365 days or 366 days per year and is often used as a way for customers to compare interest rates.

When comparing loan providers, always check the APR because this gives a more accurate picture of your loan commitment than the Monthly Flat Rate alone.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. Unlike many other lenders in Hong Kong, Winton is highly transparent, with absolutely no hidden charges.

How long does it take to receive my loan?

Once your application is approved, you will receive your loan immediately by cash or cheque.

What do I do if I will be late on a loan repayment?

Speak to us before your loan repayment is overdue so that we can work with you on a solution that will reduce your financial burden.

If a loan repayment is overdue, we charge the legal minimum late payment penalty as defined by the Hong Kong Money Lenders Ordinance. Unlike many others, we do not charge excessive late fees.

How do I repay my loans?

To make repayment as easy as possible for you, we have a number of repayment options. The easiest option for you would be to set up a direct debit from your bank account. Other repayment options include:

  • Cash or cheque drop off at any of our branches, Monday to Friday from 09:00 - 18:00 and 09:00 - 13:00 on Saturday. We are closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.
  • Bank transfer using HSBC automatic teller machines.

When do I have to start making loan repayments?

Generally, your first loan repayment will be due one month from the day you receive your funds.

If you would like to make any changes, notify us and we will work with you to revise your terms of repayment accordingly.
